On the way back from the Kapolei Chamber of Commerce meeting today I noticed a lot of smoke blowing across the road and was a little surprised to find two small brush fires, about 100 yards apart, alongside the road.
There was no fire department presence on the scene or apparently on the way and I was just about to grab my mobile and dial 911 when I noticed an HPD officer had just pulled over on the other side of the road and appeared to be on his radio calling it in.
No structures in really immediate danger, though one of the Kaleloa rental group buildings wasn’t far away. There were, however, a couple of telephone/electrical poles right in the middle of the flames. So if that doesn’t get dealt with quickly I can envision the possibility of one or both of those toppling and taking out electricity and/or phone service to a bit swath of the area.
